I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Accotax have been our accountants for many years now. We maintained them, because of their professionalism. In the last coiple of years, i have working with Imran, who has been very professional and helpful in guiding us through the whole process explaining and clarifying every aspect of it. I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.
QUESTIONS
Self-employed tax return questions
Yes. If you are starting out, you must register with HMRC by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you began trading, then file a Self Assessment return.
It is a £1,000 allowance for trading income. If your gross trading income is £1,000 or less you generally do not need to report it. Above that, you can deduct either the allowance or your actual expenses, whichever is better.
If your profits are above the lower profits limit, you pay Class 4 National Insurance through Self Assessment. We calculate it as part of your return so you see the full bill.
Yes, if you genuinely work from home you can claim either simplified flat-rate amounts or a share of your actual household costs. We choose the method that gives you the better result.
Your fee moves to the band that matches your yearly turnover, sales or expenses. The full list is above, and we confirm your fee before we start.
Our fees start from £199 + VAT and depend on your turnover. We confirm your exact price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
You can claim costs incurred wholly and exclusively for the business, such as stock and materials, insurance, software, the business share of phone and internet, professional fees, travel and a proportion of home office costs. Simplified flat-rate expenses are available for mileage and working from home.
Turnover is your total business income. Profit is turnover minus allowable expenses. Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance are charged on profit, not turnover.
If your Self Assessment bill is over £1,000 and less than 80% of your tax was collected at source, HMRC asks for two advance payments towards next year’s bill, due on 31 January and 31 July. Each is normally half of the previous year’s bill.
Yes. We prepare and file late returns for any year and explain the penalties. The sooner a late return is filed, the lower the extra charges. See our late tax return service.
